Review of…And Then We Hit a Rock: A family of 5, a dog, and a cat move onto a sailboat by Greg Buenzli

For those who love an adventure story, especially when the journey is as much about family bonds as nautical miles, Greg's humorous account of his family's almost-year-long sea voyage is an absolute treasure. Imagine this: two parents, their three children, and two pets, all packed onto a 15-year-old sailboat, sailing along the East Coast all the way to the Bahamas. What happens is a hilarious series of mishaps—broken navigation devices, unexpected storms, and even hitting a rock—that would test the mettle of any boat captain. I would have liked more chapters celebrating the moments when everything went right, and I don’t think the name of the book is very inviting (although they did hit a rock). The last chapter is about “the other side of the dream,” and I think that would’ve made a beautiful title. Who has a dream of this caliber and actually follows through? Not many of us. Kudos to Greg and his family. And now readers get to enjoy the stories of their adventures. Highly recommend.
